| Events Sylvia Evans Award The Sylvia Evans Award has been given each year to a woman in the community who has demonstrated concern and devoted time and energy to the families of the Androscoggin Valley. The award is named after Sylvia V. Forman Evans, who died on March 31st, 2005 in Danville, CA. Sylvia Evans was the first woman to receive the Coos County Family Health Services award in 1981. Mrs. Evans was born in Brooklyn, NY but lived in Berlin for more than 43 years. Sylvia organized a Well Baby Clinic, the North Country Community Services, the Family Planning Board, a chapter of the American Association of University Women and the Parent Teachers’ Association. She served as chair of the Berlin School Board and taught special education in the Berlin and Gorham schools for 15 years. She was an active member of Beth Israel Synagogue. |

| Young Leadership Award The Sylvia Evans Award has been given each year since 1981 to women in the community who have demonstrated concern and devoted their time and energy to the families of the Androscoggin Valley. The award is named after Sylvia V. Forman Evans, who passed away on March 31st, 2005 in Danville, CA. The Sylvia Evans Award provides an opportunity to highlight the extraordinary contributions that women have made to the development of our region. It is also an excellent means of providing first role models for our young girls to emulate. This year CCFHS will award a high school girl from the Androscoggin Valley, with the “Young Leadership” award, as part of the Sylvia Evans Award. The criteria for selection: • Community Leader – demonstrates positive leadership within her peer group, community, church, or youth movement, etc. • Student Leader – demonstrates leadership and “makes a difference” within her school’s academic community. • Creative Leader – demonstrates being an innovative force in any area of the arts. For exp: outstanding movie, an outreach educational project for the community, etc. • Personal integrity & Family – someone who communicates her leadership through her personal integrity and commitment to family or personal values.
