| Mental Health Mental health is how we think, feel and act as we cope with life. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others and make choices. Everyone feels worried, anxious, sad or stressed sometimes. With mental illness these feelings do not go away and are enough to interfere with our life. Mental illnesses are common. They affect about one in five families in the U.S. Sometimes, un- treated or undiagnosed mental illness leads to suicide. Rates of suicide in Coos County (21%) are higher than in the rest of the state (12%) and nearly double the national average of 11%. CCFHS offers Behavioral Health at the Pleasant Street site 4 hours a week by Chester Annis, MA, LCMHC/MLADC to assist patients with diagnosed diabetes and depression; and to provide consultation for patients with related issues.
