Mission:  Response to Sexual and Domestic Violence is a non-profit, confidential, non-discriminatory, community-based organization, designed to provide trauma informed services to all individuals impacted by sexual and domestic violence, creating a cultural change that promotes health and well-being to all populations within Coos County.

Domestic violence is a very real problem to over 40,000 New Hampshire families every year. 50% to 60% of all married couples experience violence at least once in their relationship.

It can take several forms.

Physical abuse includes slapping, pushing, pulling hair, grabbing, holding you down, kicking, choking, and using weapons.

Verbal or emotional abuse is the use of the words to break a person's spirit. Self-esteem is torn down. Name calling, isolation, threats of physical abuse, humiliation, destruction of personal property, and abuse of pets are examples.

Sexual abuse can include marital rape, incest, forcing unwanted sexual acts, and/or any physical abuse directed at sexual parts of the body.

Domestic abuse is a crime. The person committing the abuse is responsible for their own behavior. It is not the victim's fault. Most people do not want their relationship to end; they want the abuse to stop. Abuse victims are often afraid to seek help. However, without intervention, the level of abuse will often increase and become more dangerous.
